We love it here in the Inland Northwest! And we encourage you to explore. To boat (of course) and camp and hike and…I could go on but I’d run out of breath before I finished all the options.
And while you’re exploring, we want to encourage you to stay safe. Because there are Lions and Tigers and Bears, Oh MY! Well, no tigers, but we do have cougars and bears and snakes and moose, and many other beautiful, majestic, but also dangerous critters roaming around.
So, you might consider some education about the area and its critters.
Here’s one chance for you to fill in your knowledge of the Inland Northwest’s Critters.
Moose and Cougars and Bears, Oh MY!
When: Thu, March 24, 6:30pm – 8:30pm
Where: REI, 1125 N Monroe St, Spokane, WA 99201, United States (map)
What: “Have you ever wondered what to do if you meet a bear in the wilderness? What about moose, cougar or skunks? Being outdoors with wild animals doesn’t have to be scary. Join a Riverside State Park ranger and find out how to deal with animal encounters. The Spokane area is home to diverse flora and fauna. While this makes time outdoors exciting, it can also be intimidating when you’re headed into a new area. Hear what the experts have to say about how to meet a moose, cheat cougar, brave a bear, sidestep a skunk, and circumvent a snake. You’ll learn more about what lives in our woods, where to find it and how to avoid it. This class is free to attend and space is limited. Register early to save your seat.”
Sheesh, they even mention skunks. Trust me, you don’t want to disturb one. You’ll be dealing with their defense mechanism for days, maybe even weeks, after the encounter.
