Over the last several posts, we’ve highlighted some amazing trails in the Inland Northwest including the
Centennial Trail, the
Hiawatha Trail, and the
Trail of the Coeur d’Alenes. All of these are great to explore but perhaps you’re looking for something that’s a little more engaging for your young children. This next trail makes a fabulous activity for families with young kids.
Explore Coeur d’Alene with Mudgy and Millie
What makes this exploration so great for kids is the Mudgy and Millie book written by local author Susan Nip.
From the author’s website: “Mudgy Moose and Millie Mouse play a game of hide-and-seek. Millie hides while Mudgy searches for her along the shores of Lake Coeur d’Alene. Children join in the fun as Mudgy wanders along the lake, across town, and through the park in his quest to find Millie, who was hiding close by all the time.”
All said and done, this adventure takes you on a 2-1/4-mile trail along Lake Coeur d’Alene and through Downtown Coeur d’Alene. Along the way, you’ll find five life-size bronze statues positioned at locations where Mudgy pauses in his search for Millie. There are also Mudgy Moose Trail signs to guide you along the trail.
What a great way to get kids into reading and explore beautiful Coeur d’Alene!
